Matcha

Our top grade of organic matcha is made from the first springtime harvest of tencha, savored for its umami sweetness, creamy taste and enlivening energy. Lauded for being high in antioxidants (containing around 130 times more than an average cup of green tea), it also has caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine, which is a mood-booster and said to strengthen cognitive ability. Tencha tea bushes are shaded for 3-5 weeks prior super green tea to harvest using a traditional frame-and-thatch technique known as tana, which blocks 70-85% of the sun's energy from reaching the tea bushes. After sipping the intense vegetal qualities of Wow Matcha you will be left feeling calm, yet its slow release of caffeine keeps you focused and energized throughout your day.

The wide variety of products that matcha can be added to has inspired Shillcock to also expand his Vivid Drinks range after already finding success with his line that combines the tea with natural juices. Since over 60% of the catechins in matcha are actually EGCg, a daily matcha regimen can help restore and preserve the body's integral well-being and balance.

A 1999 study featured in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition demonstrated that matcha rich in catechins hasthermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation 35-43%, beyond that explained by the tea's caffeine content. This helps buffer the caffeine content and deliver amazing concentration and focus without the jitters of other caffeinated beverages.

It is used mainly in formal tea ceremonies in Japan, but we're doing our best to convince people that one needn't formally 'study' tea to enjoy it. You can just make a cup. Like all green tea our little superhero contains flavonoids which in studies have been shown to have an antioxidant effect. Because matcha is highly concentrated in substances (both good and bad), it is generally not recommended to drink more than two cups per day.

With its high amino acid concentration (L-theanine), Alkalinizing pH, and chlorophyll-rich composition, matcha provides the perfect low calorie, energy and focus-enhancing food. As long as you get your 1/2 teaspoon, you will get all its fantastic health benefits. Tea originates from the leaves of Camellia sinensis - a white-flowered evergreen. It looks like electric green cocoa, and has the mouthfeel of a well-made espresso. Matcha should either be stored in the freezer, if you plan on NOT opening it for a while, or in the fridge, once it is opened.
